Abstract

Featured in the exhibition are a selection of postcards produced by academics from the College of Education (now) in 2015 as part of a larger research project. These panels are accompanied by another suite of postcards that were generated using historical photographs, illustrations and text sourced from the VU Archives (then). The historical academic postcards do not represent a realist interpretation of history as the text does not always match the same era as the selected image. Instead text and images have sometimes been ironically juxtaposed to raise critical questions around gender and other issues involved in engaging in academic work. We hope this exhibition will continue to promote critical dialogue about the changing nature of academic work at VU over the last 100 years and the important work that academics do.

Additional Information

Contemporary postcards were sourced from the research project ‘Small Narratives & The Big Picture: Academics Revealing The Work They Do’ conducted by Mark Selkrig, Kirsten Sadler and Catherine Manathunga and their colleagues in the VU College of Education in 2015.
