Much debate has ensued about which treatment is an evidence- based treatment. Professional organisations all over the world have endorsed or recommended particular psychological treatments for specific psychological disorders, for example, the Australian Psychological Society (2003), American Psychological Association Division 12 (Chambless & Ollendick, 2001; Nathan & Gorman, 1998) and the United Kingdom Department of Health (Treatment Choices, 1999; Roth & Fonagy, 1997 & 2005). The strong overt message is best practice is determined by research evidence comparing treatments
