Abstract

The research reported in this article is part of a larger study that is investigating primary pre-service teachers mathematical content knowledge. For this study a study of first year pre-service teachers' responses to two ratio questions were analysed. The study found that the vast majority of pre-service teachers lacked specialised mathematical content knowledge and common mathematical content knowledge of the concept of ratio and measurement units.
