Abstract

This paper examines the role of career development services in the light of recent reports by Skills Australia and the last federal budget. While recognis ing that career development services are required across all age groups and in all sectors of education, both Sk ills Australia and the budget have plac ed a particular emphasis on the role of vocational education and training (VET) as one of th e agents of improved productivity and both social and economic change. The paper draws upon the most re cent research and policy both in Australia and internationally.
