Abstract

The separation of Co(II), Ni(II) , Fe(II) and Fe(III) has been a problem that has vexed chemists for many years. Separation has been difficult because of the very similar chemical properties of these transition metals that are situated alongside each other in the Periodic Table. The work contained in this thesis shows the membrane extraction of the metals: Cobalt(II), Nickel(II). Iron(II) and Iron(III) in aqueous media using a polymer “entangled” membrane containing the extractant Aliquat 336 and PVC (polyvinylchloride).
