Abstract

After many years of service and ongoing deterioration, Australia’s infrastructure water pipelines including water pipes, sewers and stormwater pipes, are demanding timely and appropriate rehabilitation programs to ensure their serviceability. Asset management technology and understanding of pipe deterioration are constantly improving. But there is lack of a training program in most higher education providers and research institutions of Australia to update current asset managers and engineers as well as graduates with such latest, practical and state of art asset management skills and knowledge. In this paper, a training program for asset management of infrastructure water pipelines is proposed. The training program is designed to fulfill four key learning tasks: student-centred learning, learning diversity, student learning assessment and practical outcomes. The training program focuses on four important skill and knowledge areas: data collection program, risk management program, optimal rehabilitation program and project management. Furthermore, E-learning technology is explored to enhance student learning.
