James McAuley

McLaren, John (1993) James McAuley. UNSPECIFIED. (Unpublished)

Abstract

Contains a review on John McAuley, an Australian poet, polemicist and founding editor of Quadrant, and his work. For James, emptiness was the central fact of modern secular life. The fear of social and personal disintegration haunts his early poems, and this fear drove him from anarchism through Buddhism to the Catholicism that offered the certainty and structure he needed.
