Abstract

A model of the refractive index modulation produced during fibre Bragg grating fabrication, using the phase mask technique has been established, assuming a linear relationship between refractive index and the irradiated intensity. Results are compared to the imaged refractive index modulation of a Type I fibre Bragg grating produced in the core of an optical fibre.
