Abstract
Forest of Light was commissioned by the GPT group as part of their school holiday engagement program. The creative work was a large animatronic and cardboard based installation that covered an areas exceeding 12 x 9 meters that established a cardboard forest full of hidden creatures (sound effects) and vegetation. A series of outreach hands on activities were produced and run within the confines of this installation to provide considerable engagement for younger audience and to provide access to the forest for exploration. The central feature of the forest was a light pond created with electronics and optical filters and was used as a tool to explain the process of light formation. The hands on and take home activities were construction based where items constructed (simple investigative machines such as microphones, spectroscopes and others) were used to further investigate and examine the forest and aid in identifying the sounds within the forest.
