Abstract

This is the third and final policy brief prepared as part of the Disrupting Disinformation Ecologies project. This project seeks to understand the impacts and responses to disinformation at the city or local level, deriving learnings and recommendations for how these are, and can be, used in disrupting disinformation ecologies that drive violence and extremism. This project is a collaboration between The Australian National University, Victoria University, University of Glasgow, German Marshall Fund of the United States, Dare to be Grey and the Municipal Association of Victoria. The policy brief has been informed by the expert Melbourne Convening hosted in-person and online in March 2026 and the Disinformation: Local Impacts and Responses global survey administered by The Australian National University.
