Abstract

This study examines the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain in construction supply chain research through bibliometric and thematic analysis of the existing literature. Using VOSviewer, the study identifies key research trends, thematic clusters, and knowledge structures related to supply chain transparency, automation, optimisation, and adoption barriers. The analysis highlights interconnections between blockchain-enabled traceability, supply chain management, and AI-driven optimisation in construction projects. The study also synthesises reported applications, including blockchain for secure transaction tracking and smart contract automation, and AI for predictive analytics in resource planning and risk management. Findings indicate growing scholarly attention to the complementary role of AI and blockchain in improving transparency, coordination, and decision-making across construction supply chains, while highlighting persistent challenges such as implementation costs, regulatory uncertainties, technological integration, and organisational resistance. By mapping the current research landscape, this study provides a structured overview of key themes and emerging research directions, offering insights for researchers and practitioners advancing digital transformation in the construction industry.
