Abstract

While the need to balance economic, environmental and social perspectives in tourism developments is now almost universally recognized, the social perspective has received distinctly less attention than the other two. In this paper, we report on the development of a ‘decision support system’ designed to survey and analyse local attitudes towards tourism developments along the 14 dimensions identified by Fredline et al. A feature of the approach employed is the use of ‘social network analysis’ tools and techniques.
