Abstract

Real life experiences and difficulties led to patient and carer journal writing that was used to document their journey. The author discovered that there were no appropriate journals for this particular type of writing. Therefore, through their needs the writing developed into several layers worked upon simultaneously: a record keeping journal, a journal that documented the personal journey and story, and importantly the development of a specific and targeted journal for patients and their carers that helps to empower them on the journey.
