Energy exchange processes in erbium-doped fluoride glasses
Bogdanov, Valentin Kanchev (1999) Energy exchange processes in erbium-doped fluoride glasses. PhD thesis, Victoria University of Technology.
Abstract
In recent years there has been considerable interest in cross relaxation processes between ions in rare earth doped glasses and crystals. In particular interest has focused on diode-pumped lasers and optical waveguide amplifiers based on rare earth ions. This thesis is concerned with developing a model, which can explain the population and depopulation processes which are responsible for the spectroscopic behaviour of Er3+ ions in fluoride glass materials. The model particularly concentrates on Er3+ :ZB(L)AN glasses with very heavy Er3+ doping levels. Under these circumstances the energy level dynamics can be dominated by non-linear multiple-ion cross relaxation processes.
