Romero, Vivian (2011) I want beautification instead of concrete: children's views of what interests them as they walk to and from school. In: World planning schools congress 2011. Maginn, Paul J, ed. University of Western Australia, Perth.

Abstract

Paper presented in track 18 (Healthy Cities and Planning) at the 3rd World Planning Schools Congress. Held, 4-8 July, 2011, Perth. This paper documents qualitative research undertaken with 28 children attending four schools in the Sydney metropolitan region. The results indicate that natural elements, recreational areas, safety elements, comfort factors, and social interaction are elements of interest as they walk. It is critical to note these suggestions in order to plan interventions to promote children's walks to and from school.
