This thesis is concerned with issues of ethnicity, identity and citizenship. In particular, it focuses on the views of Islamic Sunni Lebanese families on the issue of citizenship as a notion of rights and participation. The key question which the thesis addresses is, in what ways can universal
notions of citizenship be reworked to simultaneously address issues of justice and difference.
