Have you driven someplace, walked or climbed or jumped in from two miles up? Have you travelled thousands of kilometres world-wide by motor vehicle, round mazes of freeways and off the beaten track? Set against this activity are interruptions, intended or unintended; a necessary fuel stop, an unforeseen accident, R&R, times to debrief, reflect and record. On the road, this duality is a constant. It seemed that a focal point for exploring these opposing forces could be the SERVICE STATION - a place of brief stops and encounters, but also of continual movement -of machinery, vehicles, work; of coming, stopping and going.
It was on this premise that this ballad opera was based.
