The document contains Ruth Crow's community involvement from 1933, firstly as a 'junior' in the dress department at Mantons Department Store in Bourke Street Melbourne. As she was frequently visiting clothing factories to collect some of the dresses, this allowed her to get a glimpse of the working conditions in some of the factories in the 1930's. From 1934 Ruth works as a domestic servant in homes of some fairly well-to-do people. The area of her concern becomes improving the conditions of maids and domestic servants work. This prompts her to establish a Domestic Servants Club in Malvern.
