Many Australian MBA courses have at least one subject devoted to study of Management Information Systems. While some such subjects concentrate almost exclusively on the management aspects of information technology, this paper advocates an approach that combines management of information technology with some theoretical and practical experience in building small information systems. Although it is not unusual to include some aspects of systems development in an MBA subject this does not usually include programming, as conventional wisdom says that you cannot teach programming to non-computing students. We disagree and argue that a form of non-code-based programming, using a language like Visual Basis, can be of interest and value to these students. Research findings relating to this issue are included in the paper.
