Although a significant number of expert systems (ES) are available for rural applications, adoption rates are low
because there has been little end users engagement in the de
velopment process [12]. The ob
ject of this paper is to
describe a development process of an end users enable expert system (EUEES) for assisting dairy farmers by improving
their decision making. This system enables dairy professionals to outline their domain specific problems leading to the
building of relevant expert systems with domain knowledge
reusing and sharing facilities. An evolutionary prototyping
methodology is employed for facilitating rapid iterative pro
cess during development. Each phase of this approach
ensures close engagement of end users with system development.
The paper also reviews ES that have been developed previously in the rural business area to exemplify the design
