The concept of leadership is frequently used in aged-care service provision. Yet, it is a concept that is not well understood or defined. This paper reports on a systematic review of national and international multi- disciplinary aged-care literature (1999 to 2004) to identify the attributes and functions of leaders in aged-care delivery systems. Themes are identified, critically appraised, and summarised. Recommendations are made for educational curricula outcomes for tertiary students—the future aged-care leaders.
