Dr Jillian Marsh is a member of the Adnyamathanha group of the northern Flinders Ranges region of South Australia, a Community Linguist, multidisciplinary post-doc researcher and educator. Jill spoke about her work providing ongoing linguistic advice to the broad Adnyamathanha community and beyond in regard to orthography, transcribing and teaching others to learn to read, write and talk the Yura Ngawarla language for the purposes of community projects, academic research, and personal storytelling that promote the use of Yura Ngawarla. Jillian drew on her life experiences as an Adnyamathanha person growing up on Country, as well as her expertise in linguistics and Indigenous research. Much of this work was voluntary, and comes from her passion about the importance of language as a human and Indigenous right.
