Given the ongoing position of dominance that the British Virgin Islands ("BVI") has in the world of offshore finance (particularly in relation to the incorporation of international business companies), the authors thought it was an opportune time to engage in an analysis of why the BVI maintains its dominant status, and whether there are any reasons why the jurisdiction may slip from this position over time. In essence, the authors provide a SWOT analysis of the BVI as an offshore financial centre. The authors conclude that while the BVI has a number of strings to its bow in order to maintain its position of strength, it must continue to work hard to ensure that these strings are finely tuned.
