Abstract

This paper reports on a pilot study focusing on the recent evolution of English vocabulary used by Pakistani adolescents online. The reason for conducting this study was to explore the influence of English as a second language on adolescent social online dialogue outside the classroom. As some linguists claim that culture and language are closely linked (Sapir-Whorf), this research explores to what degree the study of a foreign language influences its use, even when communicating in the mother tongue.
