Abstract

Book review of Real folk by John Meredith. "More than sixty years ago, a camera and an accordion set the young John Meredith on a career that, followed along with the various occupations he followed to earn a living, would enable him to collect and record an enormous part of Australia's oral heritage of recitation, song, and music. This book, based on an exhibition mounted at the National Library in 1988 and 1989, brings together stories and images of more than one hundred of the musicians who have transmitted that tradition to this generation."
