Project Report. Centre for International Research on Education Systems, Victoria University, Melbourne.

Abstract

This report details the findings from the first pillar of the Skills and Jobs for Melbourne’s West project, which is part of a broader initiative called the Victoria University ‘Recover, Innovate, Sustain and Evolve’ (VU RISE) funded by the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund (VHESIF). The Skills and Jobs for Melbourne’s West project adopts a definition of the West of Melbourne to align with key project partner’s focus, West of Melbourne Economic Development Alliance (WoMEDA). This report outlines the key findings generated from research documentary analysis, key stakeholder consultation through our eminent Project Reference Group, over 700 responses to our employer survey and more than twenty interviews with policy stakeholders and local employers. The applied social research focused upon four target industries: Infrastructure, Digital Economy, Social Services and Care, and Manufacturing. Data analysis, economic modelling and documentary analysis was completed at the whole economy level with the survey targeted to the chosen industries along with the follow up interviews with employers.
