Abstract

. . . our educational models focus too much on content at the expense of skill development . . . skills our students need to be successful professionals. (Albrecht and Sack, 2000, p. 43) It all started in the staff room about two years ago. We were having a coffee and lamenting the apparent reduction in time allowed for management accounting content in the accounting curriculum. How could we cover all we wanted to do in only two subjects? We decided to develop an accounting elective which specifically addressed management accounting and technology and, at the same time, was innovative in approach and delivery. So it was born: Managerial Accounting, Decisions and Technology, a new third-year elective subject in the undergraduate accounting degree.
