Abstract

The North Melbourne Association is now sixteen years old. It is not possible to exactly measure the effectiveness of urban action groups such as the N.M.A.; but this sketchy history shows how, over the years, members have tried to carry out the original aims of the Association. These were: 1. "To initiate and, where necessary, implement action which will assist the integration, development and/or the advancement of the communal well-being of the residents of North and West Melbourne. 2. To encourage such activities as are likely to help the people of North and West Melbourne to become constructively involved in matters affecting their life and work. 3. To provide effective means of approaching State, Municipal and/or other public authorities and instrumentalities. 4. To co-operate with others, both inside and outside North Melbourne and West Melbourne, who have similar aims and interests."
