Australian studies abroad – India and Europe

McLaren, John (1980) Australian studies abroad – India and Europe. UNSPECIFIED. (Unpublished)

Abstract

In this paper John McLaren makes three assertions and puts an argument. The assertions are that Australian studies are alive and well in India and in a number of European countries; that the interest of people abroad in Australia is intrinsic and potentially lasting; and that there are nevertheless some reasons to worry about the future of these studies. The argument is that it is important to support Australian studies abroad because these studies promote a better understanding of Australia in the world at large, help Australians to understand themselves better, and make a specific and important contribution to the present state of human knowledge.
