A true conservative : John Bray

Abstract
Contains a review of John Bray’s work. Behind the poet, the historian and the polemicist, one is constantly reminded of the judicious stance of the lawyer, although there are no examples of his significant contribution to both the jurisprudential wisdom and writing. Rather, one is given the work of a man for whom the great institution of the law has been a constituent part of a liberal education. Reading his work gives the reader the privilege of sharing his education. All his work, which contains essays, parts of biography, a generous selection of his poetry and occasional addresses, has the same qualities of tough reasonableness and wry detachment.
