Abstract

There has been considerable debate about the impact of social capital on health, but less is known about the relationship between social capital and the maintenance of wellness in old age. Access to suitable housing is critical for good health at any, age, and retirement villages are an increasingly popular accommodation option for healthy older adults. This paper reviews the literature on social capital, health, and wellness, and considers whether retirement villages have the potential to create social capital, and wellness, among residents.
