Abstract

Wastewater frequently contains concentrations of salt which adversely affect its use for irrigation of crops. This paper proposes that instead of desalination per se, alternative process technologies can be configured to produce irrigation water that better meets end-user requirements. Such processes may cost more but could add value to reclaimed water, reduce waste streams and offset the cost of desalination.
