Abstract

This paper examines a particularly revealing form of rhetorical misprision, the malapropism, in the context of contemporary public language. It shows how malapropism reveals an inherently conservative and sceptical ideological disposition in public discourse. To illustrate the argument, it draws on three contemporary examples from sources in the Australian news media.
