Abstract

This paper is the third in a series of research papers exploring a range of contemporary correctional issues. It was commissioned by Corrections Victoria to examine national and international research and other relevant literature that deals with issues surrounding the effective management and care of old and aging offenders in prison and in the community. The report summarises the key themes emerging from the literature, noting a need for greater research, and identifies why this is a significant issue. It examines best practice in relation to older prisoner detention, rehabilitation and post-release support. It also recognises innovative approaches to policy and the management of older offenders.
