Abstract
Whilst most research into the connections between fashion and the city focuses on "world cities" like Paris, Milan, and New York, much less is known about fashion processes in smaller cities. Yet small cities provide an opportunity to examine fashion's embeddedness in places, explore how places maintain their reputation as fashion centers, and understand the relationship between local fashion consumption processes and sustainable fashion industries. This chapter explores these issues thorugh an examination of the annual L'Oreal MelbourNe Fashion Festival (LMFF) in Australia's leading place of fashion, the city of Melbourne.
