Abstract

SO SALARY caps in the AFL and NRL should be abolished for the good of football? (Paul Kerin, BusinessDay, 14/5). On the contrary, this could not be further from the truth. The fact that clubs are trying to cheat the system is evidence that under the present rules the risk of punishment is no deterrent. Clubs are willing to pay as much as they can afford to buy the best players. Rather than dropping the salary cap, we need to police it more rigorously.
