'There's the siren! aurality and respresentation of the sounds of (Australian) football
Trail, Margaret (2009) 'There's the siren! aurality and respresentation of the sounds of (Australian) football. PhD thesis, Victoria University.
Abstract
The aim of this research project in performance studies is to consider the aurality of (Australian) football: the sounds that are heard and produced by those who play (considering all participants to be players). In so doing it addresses problems that arise when sound is approached as the object of understanding, and experiments with ways to re/present sound without distorting or reducing it within conventional textual, visual or musical modes of representation.
Additional Information | This is an electronic version of the written component of a PhD project in performance studies, undertaken by Margaret Trail at Victoria University, entitled: ‘there’s the siren!’ aurality and representation of the sounds of (Australian) football. This electronic version should be thought of as a representative part of the complete project, significant aspects of which are impossible to present in this form. The complete project comprises words printed on unbound pages, and major sections printed on different coloured papers (white, pink and gold). These pages and sections are tied in bundles by bootlaces, and presented in a box also tied with laces, which contains handfuls of small jingling bells. Also in the box is an iPod with headphones, on which the sonic component of the project has been uploaded. This complete version of the project - words on paper and iPod, boxed with bells and laces - is available for viewing/listening at the Victoria University library. |
