Abstract

Wheelahan and Moodie (2011) proposed the establishment of a national VET professional body. They envisaged its roles including the development of professional and VET teaching standards which could then be used to accredit VET teaching and training programs (particularly those offered by higher education), establish a voluntary register of members and support the professional development and peer review of VET teachers and trainers. They suggested a first stage would be to commission a project to “…establish a VET professional body, bringing together existing professionals and stakeholders with an interest in such a body.” This project, funded by the TDC, aims to examine the feasibility of establishing such a body and options for its structure, governance and operations. In developing this paper we have gathered and reviewed a range of material as well as used a small but select group of informants and key stakeholders to help us refine this paper before it is more widely considered.
