Abstract
This longitudinal study examines the ways in which young people become numerate in the twenty-first century. Are traditional ways relevant and should communications technologies (ICT) be embedded in student learning? A framework is suggested, the "Mathematical tasks continuum", for teachers to think about creating numeracy activities that are relevant to everyday life.
