Abstract
Cyber bullying education is important in every school and most schools have a program already in place. Mostly, this education takes place during school hours—targeted directly at the students themselves. Optimistically 50% will pay attention and take on board the advice that is given. The Chatroom project aims to engage and educate the whole family—including those in the broader community. The Chatroom project also aims to give young people an opportunity to discuss what does and doesn’t work when it comes to social media and “actions” against cyber bullying. It’s possible that the current advice around cyber safety isn’t applicable, maybe they have ideas that they could share with each other or with the adult community to take on board, or perhaps young people have some initiatives that have not been considered.
